Google collected data in relation to 3.6 million routers in The Netherlands, including MAC addresses, geo-location data and payload data (e-mail addresses, medical data and financial transactions). Now risking a 1 million euro fine
Posted: 2011/04/20 in Education / Awareness, Google, Privacy / Data ProtectionAs those data sets can reveal information about the owner of the router, it labels them ‘personal details’.
The Dutch Data Protection Authority orders Google to:
- inform all those involved within a period of 3 months;
- offer an opt-out option to all those involved within a period of three months;
If Google does not comply it will have to pay a fine of 1 million euros (maximum). Google has to destroy all payload data within 4 weeks.
