Dutch Data Protection Authority still investigating. Dutch Telecom Regulator has paused its investigation and will resume after the Data Protection Authority has reported its findings.

It’s already clear that Dutch Telco KPN used DPI for more than only the “processing of e-mail traffic.” KPN is believed to have extracted URLs and IMSI data for “marketing purposes” and has analyzed the correlation between the use of software applications by its subscribers (generally) and the effect on bandwidth resources (generally). Parties involved are revisiting the definition of “data interception” and “eavesdropping” in light of DPI and Quality of Service management.
