Judges should be deciding whether hacking is ‘ethical’ or not. Thuiswinkel.org wants the Dutch Justice Department and the Dutch government to act and set the norm.

The Netherlands is well-known for its soft approach towards cybercrime in general and hacking in particular.

Thuiswinkel.org is the branch association for businesses that sell products and services to consumers (b-to-c) via the internet, catalogues and/or the post. The association promotes the interests of its members both nationally and internationally.

… the hacker was able to:

1. Access KPN’s servers and ‘obtain rights’

2. Those servers were being used for ‘hosting of websites’, ‘routing of internet services’ and ‘storage of customer details’

3. The hacker has had ‘rights on DNS servers’ and ‘user rights on one of KPN’s routers’ enabling the hacker to potentially disrupt traffic to and from KPN’s customers (including emergency services and VOIP services). There’s no evidence that the hacker has disrupted or manipulated any traffic.

The investigation is still ongoing but so far it doesn’t seem like the hacker has copied or manipulated any information.

The Dutch government feels that emergency response as well as data security and integrity is KPN’s responsibility.

Fitting European copyright law into modern technology is one of the hot topics being discussed in Europe. For example, the Dutch government wants copyright law to be more flexible so new media users, such as YouTube users, can continue to make “creative remixes” of copyright protected content. This subject was discussed on 10 February 2012 at the conference “Towards Flexible Copyright” in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee has introduced the broad cybersecurity legislation promised late last year by Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV). But contrary to the fears of many—or perhaps because of them—the bill’s scope is tightly restrained, excluding the vast majority of commercial systems and Internet infrastructure itself from coverage.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is still of the opinion that the reputation of  The Netherlands has not been damaged because of the controversial complaint center for problems caused by Central and Eastern Europeans. He still refuses to condemn the website.

He also stated that the complaint center is subject to the right to freedom of speech in The Netherlands (the Dutch laws related to the right to freedom of speech are much more restrictive and the Dutch penal code prohibits people from insulting another person as well as the dissemination of hate speech).

Update: The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has also stated that he will intervene when he feels Geert Wilders is going to far. One has to conclude that with the introduction of the Central and Eastern European Complaint Center Geert Wilders has not gone too far in the eyes of the Prime Minister.

Additionally, by 2016 video is expected to make up 71 percent of all mobile data traffic, up from the 66 percent by 2015 that Cisco forecasted last year. By 2016 there will be more than 10 billion mobile Internet connections around the world, according to Cisco, with 8 billion of them being personal devices and 2 billion machine-to-machine connections.

Cisco’s annual report is widely cited every year by carriers and vendors alike as a key benchmark for measuring and predicting data traffic, and also as a data point to justify calls for network investment, traffic management technologies and more spectrum. According to Cisco, in 2011 global mobile data traffic more than doubled–2.3 times growth, or 133 percent–and Cisco projects that it will double again in 2012, but at a slightly lower rate of 110 percent growth.

The Rothschilds control the Bank of England, the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the IMF, the World Bank and the Bank of International Settlements. Also they own most of the gold in the world as well as the London Gold Exchange, which sets the price of gold every day. It is said the family owns over half the wealth of the planet—estimated by Credit Suisse to be $231 trillion—and is controlled by Evelyn Rothschild, the current head of the family.
