She refused to agree to a settlement and will probably have to appear in court.
Gesthuizen argues that she planned on bringing the coffin with the symbolic “deceased mailman” to the company PostNL. It is said that the company was willing to accept that symbolic gesture. Gesthuizen is convinced that the actions of PostNL will be the beginning of the end for postmen in The Netherlands.
Gesthuizen: “The two of us walking down the street is considered to be an illegal protest in this country.”
Law enforcement authorities allegedly also disagreed with just how the protest was organized, even though approval had been given previously. They labeled the use of a coffin with flowers on top as being ‘inconsiderate’ as the victims of the bus crash in Switzerland were being remembered in neighboring country Belgium on the same day.
Other news media reported that enforcement authorities moved to arrest the parliamentarian because she walked a few yards from the designated protest area.
