Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf is suggesting that the fact that a Dutch Public Prosecutor stationed on the island of Bonaire had an affair with a family member of the main suspect in a murder case, may have landed two innocent people in jail.
Lawyers for the jailed individuals argue that evidence has been withheld and that the Dutch forensic lab NFI has underperformed.
The Dutch Public Prosecutor’s Office argues that they have checked whether the Prosecutor could have been blackmailed or not and according to them that was not the case. They also added that to them ‘it wasn’t relevant whether the prosecutor has had an affair with the family member of the main suspect or not.’
By naming the two potentially innocent individuals, the main suspect escaped a lifetime imprisonment.
