In many countries the ‘reach’ of child abuse investigations is limited, meaning that low profile suspects are easily investigated, apprehended and convicted, but as soon as investigators enter judicial or political realms, as well as the more industrial foundations of human trafficking and child abuse networks, it becomes a whole different ball game and the ‘filtering and firewall functionality‘ of complaint centers, public prosecutor’s offices and ministries of justice will be activated as they often choose to intervene in one way or the other, in an effort to prevent uncontrollable levels of ‘overspill’.
It also prevents mainstream media from reporting on these matters as – at the very least – they’re jeopardizing their levels of access to aforementioned realms or even their sources of funding. In some extreme cases, publishers are being confronted with gag orders which would have them risk a 100,000 Euros fine (see 30 Oct. 2003) in case of publication.
In an article called Roman Catholic Church Cover-up Meets Judicial System Cover-up, Dutch blog Geenstijl.nl is reporting about pastor Jan Schafraad who has been accused of having sexually abused at least three former pupils. He has decided to retaliate, especially after he had been excommunicated by his Church, and decided to publish letters in which he accuses these pupils of spreading lies and false accusations while questioning their ability to properly recollect what had happened in the past. Moreover, he decided to publish their personal details too. Clearly a pastor with a grudge.
This strategy has now forced one pupil to withdraw his accusations while indicating that the reason for that would have been a threat of litigation by pastor Schafraad which would have cost the victim of sexual abuse at least 80,000 Euros, which he cannot afford.
Geenstijl.nl has now disclosed that Schafraad has been working on his vengeful strategy together with Professor Peter van Koppen, who actually produced a psychological report about two of pastor Schafraad’s victims.
It turns out that Van Koppen has previously worked with a former Vice-President of the Court of Law in Maastricht, Mr. Fokke Fernhout who had been fired for possession of child abuse images. That cooperation has resulted in Fernhout being appointed as an academic at the University of Maastricht.
Geenstijl.nl suggests that Van Koppen is the bridge between two shady worlds: that of pedophiles within the Roman Catholic Church and pedophiles within the Dutch judicial system. In relation to the latter, Geenstijl also points to recent developments in the U.S., where senators are demanding to learn more about the child abuse accusations involving the Dutch Secretary General of the Justice Department, Mr. Joris Demmink.
