Heineken May Boycot Dutch Publisher Sanoma Media For Bad Decision Making And Especially Bad Taste
Posted: 2012/09/06 in Education / Awareness, New Business Models, Online advertising, Organized Crime, Public Policy, Stats / reportsThe publisher Sanoma Media owns Dutch magazine Nieuwe Revu, which had decided to employ celebrity criminal Willem Holleeder as a star columnist. Holleeder had abducted the Heineken CEO in 1993 and has been convicted for that crime as well as the crime of extortion in 2007. He still owes the Dutch DOJ about 18 million EUR.
Nieuwe Revu also thought it would be funny to publish a picture showing Holleeder signing his new contract as a columnist, while having a can of Heineken beer on the table:

Blog Geenstijl.nl is suggesting that Heineken may go and decide to reconsider its advertising spending in relation to Sanoma Media.

The photographer of the original picture disagreed however and following various media reports on ANP’s tactics, the press agency decided to quickly remove almost all of the pictures of the magazine cover it was selling.
