The Dutch mainstream newspaper NRC is reporting that the Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Justice Mr. Joris Demmink is taking the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad to court. According to Demmink’s lawyer, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek’s Harro Knijff, his client wants to put an end to all the claims about him being a pedophile. “If you do not do anything, people will start to believe that the news articles are true and Demmink doesn’t want that to happen,” Harro Knijff stated.
Demmink wants the Dutch newspaper to identify its sources and hear them state their claims and allegations in a Dutch Court of Law. As such, he will start a procedure on the merits which, according to him, will force the newspaper to disclose the identities of their sources.
Alternative media are hoping that the above is not a new scheme of the Secretary General to try and draw away attention from the real issues at hand: the sexual abuse of minors. Their reasons for being suspicious about these events are that:
1. No mainstream newspaper dared to publish about the allegations against Joris Demmink in the past;
2. Suddenly there was the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad not only making mention of the case but also presenting new witnesses and new evidence that no one else had been able to expose before. Moreover, these claims are originating from criminal circles in The Hague;
3. Demmink has never acted against previous allegations – as there may have been a level of truth to them. It would make sense for him to act against allegations of which he knows that they’re totally unfounded. Especially if what’s being suggested is true: that Demmink himself has ties to these criminal circles in The Hague and as such, could have forwarded relevant instructions.
In any event, a forced apology and any financial sanction could thwart any of the other mainstream media from investigating or reporting on these particular events. And the same could be applicable to enforcement authorities.
