This Dutch language news broadcast by the NOS, the Dutch state funded news broadcaster, had been pulled from public archives. The NOS also refused to hand out a copy to investigators of the Joris Demmink case.

The magazines Panorama and the Gaykrant had to bow down today. They themselves have declared that they have accused a top ranking justice official of engaging in sexual intercourse with minors, all on the basis of unreliable sources. He would have been a visitor of the gay meeting place the ‘Anne Frank plantsoen’ in Eindhoven and brothels for boys in The Netherlands and abroad.
It involved the highest ranking official of the Justice Department, the Secretary General.
Panorama and the Gaykrant are now withdrawing their accusations. Both parties have agreed not to elaborate on these issues, but behind the scenes a fierce legal battle has taken place.
Voice over:
The accusations were serious, the top official of the justice department would have committed criminal acts himself. Sex with minors in the ‘Anne Frank plantsoen’ and in a brothel for boys in Prague. Minister of Justice Donner reacted furiously: “There’s not even a first fragment of evidence. There no trace of smoke let alone fire”.
The Minister exaggerated. Because when the top official had been appointed as the Secretary General of the Justice Department last year, similar stories were being spread already. The Secret Service (AIVD) investigated the stories and came to a conclusion that there was no objection whatsoever against the top official fulfilling that job position. In summary, the Secretary General was considered to be ‘clean’.
The magazines are now withdrawing their accusations. All involved are hoping to close this episode now. But that is difficult, because the male prostitute, who recently filed a criminal complaint against the top official and, according to the Justice Department, has withdrawn that complaint again, has now gone and hired a lawyer. And the lawyer wants the Justice Department to reopen the case against the Secretary General.

I have requested the Public Prosecutor’s Office to continue the investigation, and again I feel that there should be a maximum transparency regarding all the facts, the accusations are too serious. I myself feel that the accusations of my client are too serious, too reliable to close this investigation on such a short term.

The top official has settled the case with the magazines because he didn’t want to take the case to court. That would mean his entire past would come out in the open. During the conversations with Panorama and the Gaykrant behind closed doors last week, he has admitted that he has had sexual intercourse with young gay guys, and that he did not always ask of what age they were. Not a topic, he feels, to go and fight over in a court of law.
